Like any medicine, Spironolactone comes with a risk of side effects. Theyโre very rare, but if you get any of the following, stop taking Spironolactone and contact your doctor right away:
- Itchiness and blistering of the skin
- Red or purple rash
- Detachment of the top layer of skin from lower layers of skin
- Fever and swelling
- Yellow skin and eyes
- Impairment of liver function
- Irregular heartbeat
- A tingling sensation
- Loss of muscle function
- Difficulty breathing
The most common side effect of Spironolactone, affecting more than one in 10 people, is raised levels of potassium in the blood.
Other common side effects, affecting up to one in 10 people, include:
- Confusion
- Dizziness
- Nausea and vomiting
- Itching skin
- Rash
- Muscle cramps
- Abnormal kidney function
- Feeling generally unwell
