Yes, like any medicine you use, Pimecrolimus cream can cause side effects. They’re rare, but if you experience any of the following side effects, stop using the cream and get medical attention right away:
- Itching; hives; red marks on your hands, feet and throat; swelling of your throat and tongue; swelling around the eyes and lips; difficulty breathing and swallowing.
- Red itchy skin; swelling of your hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth or throat; feeling like you’re going to faint.
The most common side effect associated with Pimecrolimus cream (affecting more than one in ten people) is a feeling of warmth or burning at the application site. Other common side effects (affecting more than 1 in 100 people) include:
- Irritation, itching and reddening of the area where the cream has been applied
- Skin infections like folliculitis
