What is Jublia?

Jublia is a prescription topical treatment for mild to moderate toenail fungus infections. It contains the active ingredient efinaconazole, and is a clear lacquer that you apply to your nails in a similar way to nail polish.

Nail fungus infections are usually caused by dermatophytes, a group of fungi that thrive in warm, moist environments.^[1] These fungi can enter the nail through small cracks or cuts in your skin or nail bed. This type of infection can initially start out quite mild, causing minimal discoloration and appearances changes. But if the fungus is left to spread, it can cause your nail to become damaged. First-line topical treatments, like Jublia, can stop the infection before it has the chance to develop.

How does Jublia work?

Jublia works by stopping the growth of fungi that cause nail infections. Efinaconazole, the active ingredient of Jublia, is a broad-spectrum antifungal treatment. This means that it can be effective against a wide variety of different types of fungus. It attacks the fungal cells and stops them from reproducing and spreading, eventually leading to the death of the fungal cells. By stopping the fungus from reproducing and spreading, Jublia helps to clear the infection over time as new, healthy nail growth replaces the infected nail.

You’ll put a thin layer of Jublia on the affected nails daily. As your nail grows out, you can trim and file away the infected part of the nail.

How many doses of Jublia are there?

There is only one dose of Jublia: a 10% topical solution. It comes in the form of a clear liquid, and the bottle lid has a brush attached. You’ll usually use Jublia once daily, applying with the brush provided, until your infection has cleared.

How to use Jublia

• Before applying Jublia, make sure your toenail and surrounding skin are clean and completely dry.
• Use the provided brush applicator to apply Jublia once daily, preferably at bedtime, directly onto the affected toenail.
• Be sure to apply the solution to the entire toenail, including the skin underneath the nail (the nail bed), the cuticle area, and the skin around the edges of the toenail.
• After applying Jublia, allow the solution to dry completely before putting on socks, shoes, or going to bed.
• Avoid washing the treated area for several hours after application to ensure maximum effectiveness.
• Apply Jublia daily for 48 weeks or as directed by your physician.

How long does Jublia take to work?

Toenail fungus infections can take a long time to treat and cure. With topical treatments like Jublia, you will typically use it for 48 weeks, with daily application.

You’ll know your infection is cured when you start to see healthy nail regrowth at the base. With toenails, this can take between 12-18 months. ^[1]
